Judit Kimpian

Architect and environmental policy expert Dr Judit Kimpian has chaired the Architects’ Council of Europe’s (ACE) Sustainable Architecture Group since 2013, where she leads the campaign to reform EU legislation to deliver a net zero built environment.

In this capacity she has been a formative member of the Level(s) high level steering group, the Smart Readiness Indicator work group and had input into the Commission’s work on the 2018 revision of the EPBD, ongoing work on Building Passports, as well as Indoor Environmental Quality Guidance. She has acted as a steering group member for the EU’s Public Private Partnership for research, Build4People, the Energy Efficient Mortgages Initiative and has had formative input into other ACE Horizon research projects.

During 20 years in practice, including 5 years as Director of Sustainable Architecture and Research at AHR, Judit was responsible for major international design projects and worked with academic and NGO partners to undertake numerous performance studies of completed buildings in use. The insights she gained into the impact of feedback on design outcomes led her to engage stakeholders across the construction sector to benchmark and share performance data and lessons learned in the public domain. Judit teaches low-energy architecture and planning at UCL, regularly contributes to professional publications and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. She is the lead author of the forthcoming book 'Energy People Buildings', to be released by the RIBA in early 2021.
