The LOW Associates Brexit Barometer

The Brexit Barometer is a tool designed to assess the evolving relationship between the UK and the EU post-Brexit. Much like a weather barometer measures air pressure to forecast weather, the Brexit Barometer gauges the "pressure" in UK-EU relations. This first edition coincides with the UK General Election, a timely point to evaluate the status of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the Windsor Framework. The Brexit Barometer will be updated annually to track changes under the new Labour government, focusing on areas such as trade, regulatory alignment, security, and public opinion.

The Brexit Barometer uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures to assess whether relations are moving towards enhanced cooperation (high pressure, positive outlook) or lack of activity (low pressure, negative outlook). It offers a neutral category when neither extreme applies. Though the Brexit Barometer is a constructed tool, it provides a new framework to evaluate the complex post-Brexit dynamics and predicts future trends in UK-EU relations.
