A Special International Women’s Day 2022 Message from LOW Associates: please help us to protect and empower Ukrainian women and girls.

Marking International Women’s Day is a long-standing tradition for LOW. We have always recognised it as a day for both celebrating progress towards equality, and acknowledging the biases, stereotypes and forms of discrimination that persist. This year, however, International Women’s Day takes place under the dark backdrop of war.

The impact of war reverberates across geographies and lingers long after violence finishes.

Beyond the military and civilian casualties of the violence, war disproportionately impacts the lives of mothers and daughters; aunts and sisters:

  • 60% of preventable maternal deaths occur in situations of conflict and displacement

  • One out of every 5 refugee or displaced women in humanitarian situations suffer sexual violence, a figure which is probably an underestimation

  • 80% of the world's 65 million refugees are women and children

  • There is a 50% increase in the likelihood of domestic violence experienced by women in conflict zones.

This International Women’s Day, the official campaign theme is “Break the Bias”: a mission that we at LOW fully support and strive to contribute to every day. In the exceptional circumstances of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we would like to use this opportunity to send a message that on International Women’s Day 2022, LOW will donate to the UN Women’s Ukraine fund, which is working to protect and empower Ukrainian women and girls.

We stand with the people of Ukraine: women, men and children. Join us and donate here.
