LOW leads winning consortium to manage the new EU Corporate Covenant Initiative secretariat
The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) selected a consortium led by LOW Associates to set up and operate the secretariat for the new EU Corporate Covenant Initiative, which encourages companies to step up their contribution to clean energy transition and climate action.
LOW’s first DG ENER contract, the EU Corporate Covenant Initiative aims to mobilise businesses to achieve the 2050 European Green Deal objectives. It is a voluntary, bottom-up initiative which assists companies in meeting the required targets to become climate-neutral.
Sally Low, CEO of LOW, said: “The EU Corporate Covenant Initiative is an important step to encourage EU businesses, particularly SMEs, to make the green transition. We are delighted to work with DG ENER and our consortium partners to deliver on this highly important project.”
Aside from LOW, the Sigilla Consortium (from the Latin for ‘seal’) brings together DNV, Th!nk E, Prospex and SMEunited. The Consortium partners will launch the Corporate Covenant with an event; design and operate Pilot Advisory Services; develop in-house expertise and support materials; and raise awareness about the initiative.
The Corporate Covenant Initiative will help companies, foremost but not exclusively SMEs, to step up their contributions to the energy transition and climate action in two areas: deploying energy efficiency, renewable energy, and smart energy solutions; and increasing R&I investments in green technologies. The Initiative will cooperate with the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy and the Smart Cities Marketplace to facilitate more synergies at the local level.
