WESHARE

Empowering businesses to develop energy community models for a successful energy transition

The WESHARE initiative, co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE Programme (Grant Agreement No. 101167685), empowers businesses across Europe to develop and implement energy community models that support a successful clean energy transition.

ABOUT WESHARE

Launched in 2024, WESHARE is a 36-month project coordinated by RIMOND SRL and implemented by a consortium of partners:

It brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including businesses, local authorities and energy service providers to foster energy-sharing models that reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance energy security.

During its pilot phase, business energy-sharing communities in Belgium, Portugal and Spain will demonstrate how collective energy solutions can drive Europe's clean energy transition. These pilots will serve as replicable models, encouraging companies across Europe to adopt similar approaches.

To achieve this, WESHARE partners lead key activities that ensure a comprehensive and effective implementation:

  1. ZuidtrAnt – Removing barriers for energy-community at business sites

  2. RIMOND SRL – Management and Coordination

  3. Genera – Business models & financing for business energy communities

  4. ENA – Building competencies for setting-up of business energy communities

  5. GISA – Sustainability, replication and exploitation of project results

  6. LOW Associates – Communication, dissemination and integrated stakeholder engagement

Through this collaborative effort, WESHARE provides businesses with the tools, insights, and policy support needed to transition to cleaner, more efficient energy use, contributing to Europe’s 2050 climate neutrality goals.

THE CHALLENGE

A complete shift to renewables is essential to achieving the European Union's climate neutrality goals by 2050. With energy production responsible for 75% of greenhouse gas emissions, the creation of renewable energy-sharing communities among businesses is a key solution. However, challenges such as complex regulations, economic constraints, and limited awareness have slowed their development. Businesses in industrial parks, in particular, face difficulties in adopting sustainable energy solutions due to these barriers.

DELIVERABLES

  • Creation of the WESHARE visual identity

  • Design of the communication, dissemination, and stakeholder engagement strategy

  • Management and implementation of communication activities

OUR SOLUTION

Business energy-sharing communities can drive the clean energy transition by fostering collaboration among businesses on renewable energy projects. These communities enable companies to reduce energy costs, improve their energy efficiency, and enhance energy security.

The WESHARE initiative, co-funded by the European Union under the European Commission’s LIFE Programme, empowers businesses across Europe to establish energy community models for a clean energy transition. During its pilot phase, energy-sharing communities in Spain, Belgium, and Portugal will highlight the tangible benefits of energy sharing among businesses.
